Fygg Toothpaste

With no harsh chemicals, no fluoride, and featuring the highest-quality nano-Hydroxyapatite on the market, Fygg was designed to promote a healthy oral microbiome while protecting teeth. Other toothpastes include unnecessary and potentially harmful ingredients like foaming agents, preservatives, and other powerful chemicals. Fygg contains only what is required to remineralize teeth and support the oral microbiome, which toothpastes should have been engineered to do from the beginning.

An oral microbiome-supportive remineralizing toothpaste without surfactants, emulsifiers, fluoride, and essential oils. Simple, effective, and safe—this is what makes Fygg unique.

We are a “less is more” brand. Founded by two whole-body, functional dentists who have scrutinized the industry, the research, and the efficacy of the competition for years, our formulations have been labors of love and made with genuine passion for creating a better and safer product. We were able to successfully remove the unnecessary ingredients that the industry has long included in their toothpastes solely for cheaper and more efficient methods of mixing large batches of toothpaste. Removing these ingredients allows us to manufacture a paste that tastes good, feels good, and actually works and does not cause harm. Nourishing the oral microbiome and remineralizing teeth; what toothpaste should have been engineered to do from the very beginning.

Hydroxyapatite (HA) is a naturally occurring mineral that constitutes approximately 97% of tooth enamel and 60% of bone structure. Your body contains significant amounts of HA, which is also present in your saliva. This mineral has sparked a transformation in dental hygiene, initially gaining popularity in Japan, a country often ahead in adopting innovative health practices, and now increasingly favored in Europe for its proven safety and efficacy. Research indicates that HA might be as effective, if not more so, than fluoride in restoring tooth enamel.

Curious about the science behind it? Explore the research on our ingredients page!

At Fygg, we use the highest quality nano-Hydroxyapatite (nano-HAp) available globally in our toothpaste, which has been deemed safe for consumer goods by the European Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) for its rigorous standards.  Our nano-HAp undergoes stringent quality control measures, prioritizing your safety with thorough testing and adherence to global guidelines. For more detailed information on our ingredient safety and efficacy, explore our science page.

Excessive fluoride is toxic, especially to developing brains, and isn't necessary for oral health. It can lead to fluorosis, and weakening bones and teeth, and studies link it to reduced IQ and neurocognitive issues in children. Given these risks, and with hydroxyapatite proving equally or more effective for dental health, the choice seems clear for safer oral care options.

Yes! All Fygg flavors are effective for all ages...the only differences are the flavors. So humans 0-100+ can enjoy all our options!

We do encourage working on teaching your child to be able to spit out, but know how tricky this can be for very young children, so simply use a small smear of toothpaste. This is enough to be efficacious until spitting is learned!

With recent concerns about fluoride in our water and oral healthcare products, more dentists are recommending hydroxyapatite as the standard for remineralizing. We have a community of functional dentists and hygienists constantly sampling, trialing, and supporting Fygg across the U.S. Their role is crucial in ensuring our products are at the forefront of dental science, backed by rigorous research, and embody the pinnacle of innovation in oral care.

No, this is not true.  The notion that glycerin in dental products might hinder tooth remineralization has stirred discussion within select wellness circles. This theory suggests that glycerin could form a layer on teeth, potentially blocking the natural remineralization process crucial for dental health.

This idea stems from Dr. Gerard Judd's assertions in his 1996 book "Good Teeth, Birth to Death," where he posits glycerin as detrimental due to its alleged coating effect on teeth, impeding mineral absorption necessary for enamel strength.

Despite these claims,  thorough investigation reveals no scientific studies backing Dr. Judd's hypothesis on glycerin's impact on remineralization.

The primary concern revolves around glycerin's potential to block mineral uptake by the enamel. However, glycerin's water-soluble nature means it doesn't form a lasting barrier; it's easily removed by saliva or water, thus not permanently obstructing mineral absorption or the remineralization process.

Indeed, hydroxyapatite possesses inherent whitening capabilities. Our toothpaste leverages this natural compound to brighten teeth, steering clear of abrasive peroxides that can erode enamel and lead to tooth sensitivity.

Fygg products are good for two years from the manufacturing date unopened and one year after opening.

Yes! Fygg tubes are composed of LDPE plastic (recycle code 4) and the caps are made from PP (polypropylene, recycle code 5). Just cut your tubes in half, rinse, and toss in the recycling bin! ♻️

We are proud to say that our toothpaste and varnish are made right here in the United States!

Absolutely not! We are major animal lovers over here at Fygg.

Yes! Hydroxyapatite has been shown to help with not only remineralization, but also sensitivity in the research.

Science shows that hydroxyapatite works just as well at remineralizing teeth as fluoride, with some studies now showing nano-hydroxyapatite outperforming fluoride. In addition to remineralization, hydroxyapatite can make teeth less sensitive, smoother, brighter, and appear whiter, as well as nourish the oral microbiome by preventing plaque formation by pathogenic bugs and preventing pellicle formation. It also establishes ionic integrity which is needed for the natural exchange of mineral ions in the mouth.

Our production site includes items made with shea nut butter, macadamia nut oil, sunflower oil, and coconut oil. Nonetheless, we implement stringent allergy segregation procedures to avoid cross-contamination. Rest assured, our products are not manufactured in facilities handling peanuts, peanut derivatives, eggs, dairy, or flax. Additionally, all our offerings are vegan and gluten-free. If you have concerns about a particular allergen, feel free to reach out to us at support@fygg.com.

No. Fygg toothpaste contains a small amount of xylitol, which can be toxic to dogs. Dogs’ metabolism and lack of appropriate enzymes prevents them from properly digesting xylitol. We use xylitol for flavor and microbiome benefits, but it is not safe to use with pets. If your pet happens to find their way into your toothpaste, contact your Vet or Pet Poison Control immediately (1-800-213-6680).

Yes! We highly suggest it for patients with orthodontic appliances or dental restorations, as it can strengthen enamel, whiten teeth, and reduce sensitivity.

You only need a small rice-sized amount of toothpaste for efficacy in kids, and a pea-sized amount for efficacy adults. The magic of the toothpaste is with it's ability to "super-charge" your saliva, so just a thin coating on your teeth is sufficient. You can spit, but DO NOT RINSE after more maximum efficacy!

Absolutely! In fact, it is able to help with any post-whitening sensitivity! However, we do recommend trying a nano-HAp-based toothpaste before trying whitening with trays and the peroxide-based oxidizing agent. Since nano-HAp does actually make teeth look whiter and brighter, many have found this to be enough of an effect. Peroxide-based whitening procedures are generally quite aggressive and not oral microbiome or tooth-friendly procedures.

Xylitol is a natural sugar alcohol and acts as a prebiotic.  It is found in plants and naturally in the human body, and is used in our toothpaste for its proven benefits in supporting oral health by reducing cavity-causing bacteria while also offering a pleasant taste. Though excessive intake (as might be seen in consuming copious baked goods with xylitol) might affect gut health or raise uric acid levels, the amounts in toothpaste are negligible and are very beneficial for dental care, making it a widely accepted ingredient for cavity prevention and oral microbiome optimization.

There is no science to necessarily support this, but we feel the logical order for oral hygiene is to tongue scrape (once a day), floss (once a day), and then brush (twice a day). We also love adding in an oral probiotic at the end of your routine to add additional beneficial bacteria into the mouth. But beggars can’t be choosers, so please follow whatever order enables you to get the job done!

Not with our super-clean, oral microbiome supportive formulation! Do not rinse, just spit it out. This takes a little getting used to, but trust us when we say you will learn to love this effective habit. The magic of the prebiotics and hydroxyapatite will work best if left on the teeth and in your saliva, so please do not rinse all that goodness down the drain!

PRO TIP: Place a small smear of the toothpaste on your floss and floss it between your teeth, especially if you are told you have any smaller (incipient) cavities in between your teeth. And again, do not rinse!

Fygg has an RDA of 34.3, as determined through third-party testing.

Fygg Dental Varnish

Many providers and patients prefer Fygg prebiotic nano-HAp varnish over traditional fluoride varnishes for its science-backed properties, clean ingredients, and support for the oral microbiome. Many patients and practitioners prefer to have an alternative to fluoride due to concerns about fluoride's toxicity to the brain in recent scientific literature. Nano-HAp varnish maintains comparable efficacy in remineralization, desensitization, and whitening.

It’s important to note that while nano-Hydroxyapatite toothpaste has been on the market, the FDA has not approved any varnishes containing nano-Hydroxyapatite. For dentists aiming to provide the safest, most effective, biomimetic, and oral microbiome-supportive care, Fygg prebiotic nano-HAp varnish represents a beneficial addition to dental practices, offering patients optimal oral health options.

Many dental professionals consider hydroxyapatite varnish to be safer than fluoride varnish due to fluoride being classified as a neurotoxin. We were able to remove hexane and propylene glycol derivatives from our varnish, making it a much cleaner choice for all patients and providers.

In addition, Fygg Pro Varnish won the 2024 Cellerant Best of Class Hygiene Award, being recognized as a top new product of the year.  So yes, many in the dental community are raving about it!

With prebiotic fiber and L-arginine, Fygg nano-Hydroxyapatite actively nourishes your patient’s oral microbiome, not destroying it as many other products do. The prebiotic fiber in the formula feeds and nourishes the beneficial bacteria in the mouth. L-arginine has been shown to elevate dental plaque pH, inhibit biofilm formation, and destabilize biofilm structure.

Also, by eliminating unnecessary oral microbiome disruptors, emulsifiers, surfactants, artificial flavors and sweeteners, hexanes and propylene glycol derivatives, and excessive essential oils, Fygg supports commensal and beneficial bacteria, allowing them to thrive!

Fygg's prebiotic nano-Hydroxyapatite varnish is applied similarly to fluoride varnish. The varnish is painted onto the tooth surface using a brush, a cotton swab, or a gloved finger, typically after a dental cleaning. The process is quick and easy, and patients greatly prefer the subtle taste and texture of Fygg varnish compared to the strong, astringent taste and overwhelming texture of fluoride varnishes.

View our varnish applicatoin instruction video HERE.

Fygg's professional strength prebiotic nano-Hydroxyapatite varnish is applied by a dental professional, such as a dentist or dental hygienist.  Applications can occur during a routine dental check-up, following a cleaning appointment, or at a specific frequency as determined by the dental team to help with sensitivity, demineralization, and remineralization.

Most dental professionals will apply it twice a year or based on recare frequencies and scheduling, but Fygg nano-Hydroxyapatite varnish can be applied at a higher frequency, depending on a patient’s needs. Custom trays can be made for home use based on the dental professional’s diagnosis and discretion.

Patients with extensive decay, especially smooth surface or root caries, orthodontic white spots lesions, or chronic tooth sensitivity may benefit from at-home use in custom trays that they wear at night, but this should be recommended based on a dental professional's diagnosis and discretion.

Hydroxyapatite varnish may vary depending on your specific insurance plan. It is recommended to check with your insurance provider for details on coverage and reimbursement. We are working hard behind the scenes to have hydroxyapatite varnishes covered universally soon! A new CDT was released in January 2024 (D2991: application of hydroxyapatite regeneration medicament) and we are hopeful the important recognition that hydroxyapatite can regenerate tooth structure will help to get this service covered for more and more patients very soon!

Patients and providers love Fygg's prebiotic nano-Hydroxyapatite varnishes; they taste infinitely better than a fluoride varnish!  Our varnish has far less of an undesirable aftertaste and texture due to removing unnecessary and potentially harmful chemicals like hexanes, propylene glycol, and polyurethane derivatives. You will find a lot fewer tears, nausea, and vomiting (aka:  no “fluoride face!”) after the application of Fygg prebiotic nano-Hydroxyapatite varnish.

While Fygg does not have the ADA seal of approval because the ADA will not approve anything without fluoride in it, there is some good news on the horizon—the ADA launched a new CDA code in January 2024 for hydroxyapatite varnishes, which makes us feel hopeful that the ADA will start approving hydroxyapatite products soon.

The truth is, many oral care ingredients, including fluoride (yes, fluoride!), lack ADA and FDA approval for certain uses, and we use them off-label. This doesn’t mean fluoride or hydroxyapatite don’t work—instead, it highlights the evolving landscape of oral health research and regulation.

The FDA's stance on off-label use underscores the importance of informed decision-making and responsible usage by healthcare professionals. Practitioners are encouraged to rely on scientific rationale and medical evidence when utilizing products for purposes beyond their approved labeling. FDA approval is not required to use fluoride varnish off-label. (USFDA, 1998, USP DI, 2006) In summary, the absence of FDA approval for hydroxyapatite doesn't diminish its effectiveness or safety. Instead, it underscores the need for a nuanced understanding of oral care ingredients and their applications.

Yes, Fygg's prebiotic nano-Hydroxyapatite varnish can promote remineralization, prevent tooth demineralization, help with sensitivity, and brighten and whiten smiles in patients of all ages. Check out our Varnish Page for more resources and research links.
